I’m uncertain if this needs to be under a line, therefore it is. (And since tumblr decided this was adult content on the first post……. I am trying to repost it… )
“But I think it has to be Logan.. he changed so much already… and I think he will make a great pet when he feels safe.”
Honestly, the dog had reminded him of himself, so lost, so scared and he lashed out when he came in, but he was slowly showing his sweet side, playful side and with time and love, he would make someone a really sweet pet.
“Logan? What have you been doing with him? What training? He has improved a lot.”
River kisses the top off Rylan’s head gently and moves one hand up, gently brushing his hair. He had noticed a connection between the two, that’s why he’d left Logan’s training to Rylan, Rylan had proven himself, as always, to be amazing with the pets and his nurturing nature doing wonders. The two of them kept talking about Logan for a while, what race he was, what he might end up as, both agreeing with the right training he would make someone a great therapy dog at some point, in the end, Rylan seems calm, smiling a tired smile at River.
River smiles down at Rylan, and gently brushes his cheek.
“What for? There’s nothing to be sorry for. You didn’t do anything wrong, Rylan. Okay? You didn’t do anything wrong. Okay? You’re safe here, with me, so rest for now. I love you, you know? I love you so much.”
He leans down and kisses the top of his head, so wishing he could do better, do more in comforting Rylan, in making him see he did nothing wrong, that he was safe and he was well and he’d always be there for him, and how Rylan himself meant everything to him. Rylan finally breaks eye contact with River, the slow memory of him grabbing onto his arm, and how River has fixed his magic, done what is needed just to be with him, and then he comes home to this mess of a boyfriend that Rylan has become.
“Because you come home to this… I even hurt your arm…”
River shakes his head and leans down kissing the top of his nose.
“A perfectly imperfect, beautiful, wonderful and caring boyfriend with a heart of gold? I’d say I took the good end of the deal. You got stuck with the cackling asshole who needs therapy.”
He shakes his head again and holds him close, carefully pulling the covers with his foot and grabbing the end, pulling it to cover themselves.
“You did nothing wrong, and I can survive a little bruise. You did nothing wrong, Rylan. Don’t be sorry, don’t be sad. I love you and I am not going anywhere, it’ll take more than panic to scare me away from you.”
River smiles, honestly he just wished he could do more.
“Maybe I need therapy too? Not that it worked well the first times I tried… “
He sighs, he had been to therapy, but he had always gotten worse from it, which had led him to stop.
“And I do disagree, I think I got the good end, cackling included.”
He snuggles up against River, still not able to show away the feeling that he just ruined their first time together away.
“Not quite how I pictured our first time… “
As he finally fully relaxes the aftereffects hit, as he just starts crying, hiding his face on River’s chest.
“It was different, an adventure.”
He chuckles, though his smile is sad and colored by worry. He didn’t care less that it didn’t go how he had planned, he felt horrible. It had been too soon, too much, too early. He was so adamant in making Rylan enjoy himself he didn’t realize he wasn’t ready. All the worries and fears he should have seen. He brushes Rylan’s head, letting him cry it all out.
“I’m here. You can cry, I’m here. It’s okay. Let it all out, love.”
Rylan smiles a little amidst the tears, it had been pretty amazing up until it wasn’t, he had to admit that.
